Despite Democrats urging Green Party candidate Jill Stein to step down amidst fears that she would siphon off crucial votes, Stein remained unyielding. She defended herself in an interview with Newsweek, placing the blame for losing the Muslim vote in Michigan on Harris and declaring the Democratic party’s credibility compromised. Stein challenged the idea that she played any role in assisting then-President-elect Donald Trump’s success in Michigan or any other region. Stein stated that it was Harris who initially lost the votes and even suggested that in many ways, she and her party were the ones who posed competition to Trump.

As Donald Trump celebrated his victory, third-party candidates, including the Green Party candidate Jill Stein, did not significantly impact the final results. Jill Stein accrued 628,129 votes, legally making her the Green Party representative. Stein’s vote percentages varied between 0.4% and 0.9% across the 38 states. Nevertheless, Stein’s campaign struck a chord with the American public, especially in Dearborn, Michigan. The city, known for its large Arab-American population, witnessed Stein securing 18% of its vote share, her most substantial percentage in the elections.

Green Party credibility

Jill Stein and her party emerged from the elections with their heads held high, pointing out their significant performance in Dearborn and other parts of Michigan. Despite Democrat attempts to suppress her party, Stein celebrated the result as affirming and uplifting. Furthermore, Stein continued to emphasize her commitment to a global cause – peace in the Middle East, showing no signs of backing down about Israel’s ongoing conflict with Hamas and Hezbollah, despite Israel’s denial of any acts of genocide. She vowed to keep fighting to stop the genocide, even if this put her in direct opposition to politicians like Donald Trump and Bibi Netanyahu.

Despite Jill Stein’s controversial political strategies and unfavorable election outcomes, she maintained a steady base of support. Her refusal to back down from her political standpoints, such as the staunch criticism of US support for Israel, sparked a wave of support from diverse communities. During the election campaign, Stein presented her party’s platform as the ‘anti-genocide, pro-worker, climate emergency’ choice for voters. Even as the Green Party faces legal barriers to electoral participation, Jill Stein seemed to be unfazed by criticism from Democratic figures or the pressure to win a larger share of the national vote.
