Jill Stein
For the Democrats, the presence of Jill Stein, Green Party candidate in the elections conveyed a formidable obstacle. They feared her participation would detract from their vote share and ultimately diminish chances for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’ success. Despite these apprehensions, Stein remained resolute, fervently dismissing allegations that she had a hand in facilitating Trump’s victory in states like Michigan. Stein also told Newsweek that the responsibility for Harris’ inability to secure the Muslim vote in Michigan lay solely with Harris herself. The Green Party candidate expressed pride over her party’s performance in Dearborn and parts of Michigan claiming that they proved to be a major competitor to Trump.
Vote Share
Despite Stein’s optimism, the party’s vote share across the nation was inconseqeuential overall. As reported by The Associated Press, Stein only managed to accumulate 628,129 votes, translating to a meager 0.4% of the electorate. In contrast to this seemingly indifferent nationwide response, Stein managed to garner 18% of the vote in Dearborn, Michigan – a city known for its significant Arab American population. Stein’s contribution to Harris’ defeat in the state gave rise to sentiments of an underhand motive. Amidst these criticisms, however, Stein reiterated her dedication towards creating change and reiterated that her only desire was to make her voice heard.
Green Party
Despite Democrat’s attempts to brand her as a spoiler, Stein stood strong with her Green Party’s beliefs. She was unperturbed by warnings suggesting her participation in the elections might lean the outcome in favor of Donald Trump. Instead, she took the criticisms in stride and proceeded to challenge the Democrats for their claims. Jill Stein who previously ran for president in 2012 and 2016 was not a newcomer to these campaigns. Her message resonated with voters like never before as she advocated for values including anti-genocide, pro-worker, and climate emergency.
Democratic Party
The Democratic Party found itself in a tight spot with Stein’s steadfast commitment to her party’s principles. They were worried about the possibility of their votes being siphoned off. However, Stein maintained that the Democratic Party had lost its credibility and its chance for revitalization was bleak. She emphasized how voters are increasingly getting disillusioned with the Democrats bringing out their impotence as an opposition party. In a direct jab at the Democrats, she reiterated that they had betrayed their base and called for them to step aside to allow space for a proper opposition.
Election Result
The election result celebrated Donald Trump’s significant win over Kamala Harris. As anticipated by some, third-party candidates including Jill Stein had a negligible impact on the final results. However, the Green Party candidate remains dedicated to her cause. Her influence within certain communities and the dedication she inspires among her followers ensures she retains a significant place within political discourse, despite her underwhelming performance in the polls. Her work, especially among middle eastern communities in the US, continues to resonate with many and she’s expected to maintain a politically active role in the foreseeable future.
